Juan Irarrázabal

Latin American Integration and Rule of Law

This book conceptually develops the condition of rule of law within a framework of continental integration. Then analyzes the European Economic Community as a case of economic integration with rule of law. This contrasts with the North American experience of free–trade integration with rule of law, which was joined by Mexico. The Latin American cases of trade integration without rule of law are reviewed as failed attempts. The study furthermore analyzes the current European Union as a case of integration including politics and rule of law, and its current challenges. The book ends with a new approach to Latin American integration, starting from energy integration and other infrastructure projects.
